Distinguished Lecturer. Temple University Japan. This intensive, graduate level course is offered by speakers invited from around the world as part of Temple University’s graduate program in ESL. Course was delivered in Tokyo and Osaka, February 2000.
MBA-CED 603 Research Methods. This intensive, graduate level course is offered to students in the MBA program. The focus is on the practical application of qualitative methodologies in the field of community economic development.
Honours Thesis Supervision. This fourth year undergraduate course requires students to complete original empirical research. I have supervised both honours thesis projects and “directed study” projects that were undertaken in the same fashion as an honours thesis. Social Cognition, Psychology 441. University College of Cape Breton, Department of Psychology, 1995. A fourth year undergraduate course in social psychology concentrating on person perception, attitudes, and stereotyping.
Theories of Personality, Psychology 3303, University of Ottawa, School of Psychology, 1993; Psychology 250, University College of Cape Breton, 1994 – present, also by distance. Instructor for the survey course in personality psychology for second and third year undergraduates. Fourteen major personality theories are reviewed with emphasis on the interrelations among these classic theories and their connection to modern research programs.
Research Practicum, Psychology 303. University College of Cape Breton, Department of Psychology, 1994 - . A survey course of intermediate statistics including both ANOVA designs (t-tests, oneway, factorial, and split plot) and multivariate statistics (including regression, factor analysis, MANOVA, and causal modelling). This is modelled after a graduate-level statistics course.
Introduction to Statistics for Psychology, Psychology 281. King's College, University of Western Ontario, Department of Psychology, 1991-1992. Lecturer and lab instructor for a full-year, undergraduate course in statistics, emphasizing probability theory and fundamental procedures for statistical inference, including z, t, F, r, regression, and chi-square.
Social Psychology, Psychology 2110. University of Ottawa, School of Psychology, 1994. Lecturer for the basic social psychology course for undergraduates. Particular emphasis is given to the relations among personality, social, and cognitive psychology.
Motivation, Psychology 311. University College of Cape Breton, Department of Psychology, 1995 - 1997. A survey of major theories of motivation including deficiency motives, growth motives, and goal-related emotions as motivating agents. Particular emphasis is given to the complementary, layered nature of motives and the difficulty in isolating a single motive for any given behaviour.
Human Sexuality and Sex Education, Psychology 365. University College of Cape Breton, Department of Psychology, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003. A course designed to cover physical, psychological, and social aspects of sexual behaviour. A variety of pedagogical methods were used, including films, guest speakers, group discussion, projects (eg., make a pamphlet, search for web sites, analyse a sexual experience) and student presentations. Emphasis was placed on dispelling myths about sexuality and integrating knowledge of various topics.

Selected Contributions to teaching development at CBU:
- First to adopt the Moodle courseware package at CBU, pilot tested and evaluated the software in a small group, and helped in various ways with the full transition from WebCT to Moodle.
- Co-developed and lead the CBU Faculty Book Club discussion series (2011 – present).
- CBU Teaching Squares, a series of non-evaluative classroom visits by faculty.
- Coordinator (with P. Morrison) and Co-Host for the CBU Community and Teaching series (2010 – present).
- Chair of the committee to develop the new, data-base driven TLC Site the CBU Teaching and Learning web site (2010).
- Co-developed, writing and editing for the CBU Teaching Tip of the Week / Month series (2007 – present).
- Assisted in developing the CBU University Teaching Program. This 3-day workshop for new and returning faculty members includes Dossier writing sessions and Brown Bag lunch discussions of teaching experiences and effectiveness. My role was co-developer of the program (with E. Smith-Piovesan) and leader of multiple sessions.
